Effective Work Communication

Unlike the traditional office setting, a remote work setting greatly depends on effective communication for smooth business operations. It’s important to be deliberate whenever you are scheduling regular work check-ins. Always when communicating make sure you maintain a strong professional connection with your colleagues and everyone who is integral to your work.

Take into consideration alternative methods of communication used in a remote work setting. Brainstorm with your team on the most effective methods of communication. Take into consideration the communication methods that will be used depending on the situation: video, calls, FaceTime, IM, email, or any similar apps. When having voice conference calls make sure there is enough space and time for everyone to chip in. Ask questions and check in with everyone present. Make sure during virtual meetings, you have no interruptions and distractions. Always make sure you are tuned into the conversation.

When there is no effective communication then there will be some distance in remote work teams. Come up with an agreed response time when communicating. Make use of away message s and calendar to inform your teammates of your possible absence. Find a way of communication that is not always work-related, where people can still connect, socialize, and, share pictures.
